Happiness is Within
khorasan integrative Psychiatry helps you discover your highest potential
Our Mission
The mission of Khorasan Integrative Psychiatry is to empower all of us to reach our highest potentials. The name ‘Khorasan’ is a Persian word referring to the rising sun. The sun represents our highest selves illuminating our lives. My clinic was thus named, in hopes of inspiring the best parts of all of us, to rise.
Who Do We Serve
Khorasan Integrative Psychiatry PLLC serves residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia who are ages 6-64 years old. I celebrate the diversity of the human community, and welcome clients of all ethnicities, gender orientations, religions or worldviews, and walks of life. Dr. Rahiem speaks Spanish. The clinic uses both telemedicine and in person visits. Initial visits are done typically done in person, so we can take vital signs and meet. The clinic is out of network for all insurances including Medicare and Medicaid. Upon request, a superbill can be provided for submission to your insurance company for reimbursement.
“I am so grateful to Dr. Rahiem. She helped me more than I am able to describe. Talking to her was like talking to a sister or a family member. I had one of the worst times of my life, and I don’t know where I would have been if she hadn’t taken the time to speak with me. She let me know that what I was feeling is called dissociation. After we talked, I felt myself coming back to normal. I am so thankful to her.”
— Client with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
“We have seen psychiatrist after psychiatrist, and Dr. Rahiem is the best psychiatrist I have worked with. They would just increase the medication or add something new. With Dr. Rahiem, I feel like she cares about my son’s well being and health. Now, he’s exercising and watching what he eats. He’s looking forward to having a future for himself. I can actually have a conversation with him now. That’s not the way it was before.”
— Mother of client with Schizophrenia

“I never miss an appointment. Dr. Rahiem is a phenomenal doctor. She gave the best care I could possibly imagine. Even when I told my family about her, they were surprised at how thorough she was. Helped me immensely during a very tough time in my life. I’d never had psychotherapy before, and I definitely wasn’t expecting it from a psychiatrist. I am very grateful for her. She is a fantastic doctor.”
— Client
“Dr. Rahiem is the only psychiatrist I’ve met who actually talks to me. She suggests more than just increasing or changing the medication. We talked about lifestyle. She really listens too. I’ve learned a lot from her, about how to take care of myself. I told her, if she leaves the clinic, I’ll look her up and come to see her.”

About Us
At Khorasan Integrative Psychiatry, I emphasize seeing each client as a whole person. My approach addresses the mind, body, and spirit. Your treatment may include the use of psychiatric medications, lifestyle changes, diet, exercise, meditation, breathing, herbal supplements, vitamins/micronutrients, and other techniques.
I encourage evidence-based natural healing approaches to maximize the intrinsic capacity of the human being to heal. As an Usui Reiki Master and Sound Healer, I have a deep respect for healers of all traditions, and I would be happy to collaborate with your other providers.
Convenient and Secure Telepsychiatry Visits
COVID-19 has presented us all with a new set of challenges. In addition to in person visits, I offer telemedicine to allow for convenient teleconferencing sessions, which meet you where you are. For safety reasons, sessions are not held while clients are driving.
Khorasan Integrative Psychiatry believes in protecting the sanctity of the therapeutic relationship. Mutual trust is of the utmost importance. In order to promote and protect that trust, I use HIPAA compliant, secure, and encrypted electronic medical record and emailing systems.
HIPAA refers to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. For more information about the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), you may visit the website for the Center for Disease Control.
What is Holistic or Integrative Psychiatry?
Holistic or Integrative Psychiatry is based upon seeing the totality of each being’s experience. This means, I try to understand each client using the lenses of the client’s biology, psychological nature, interactions with social systems, relationships, energetic balance, and spiritual beliefs. The idea is to see the client as a whole person, with multiple dimensions.
Unfortunately, much of the mental health world largely expects psychiatrists to focus on the biological nature of mental illness. Biological illnesses are typically treated with medications. As such, many have come to know psychiatrists as doctors who are trained only to prescribe medicines for mental illnesses. Thankfully, I was able to train in medical education programs and with mentors who also deeply value the human experience in its totality.
Holistic psychiatrists may recommend vitamins, herbal supplements, Chinese herbs, acupuncture or acupressure, sound healing, psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, or a plethora of other interventions. Some holistic psychiatrists have received a formal education in Integrative Medicine and others have learned from informal methods such as mentoring and direct experience.
I was formally trained and completed two fellowships, one in the broader field of Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona’s Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, and the other in the more specialized field of Integrative Psychiatry at the Integrative Psychiatry Institute.
